Summer Heat in Madrid… What to do

by / Monday, 06 June 2016 / Published in Experiences, General

Last year we had 57 days on a row above 35Cº/94Fº and the sun will be up until 21:30-22:00. You should avoid being outdoor during the central hours of the day. From 15:00 to 18:00 it is better to stay at your hotel and enjoy Spain’s most practical custom: The unique and only Siesta.
In any case you should drink a lot of water, take advantage of shades and protect your head with a hat and your skin with sun cream. You can also buy a useful souvenir: the fan.

Dear traveler,
If you're coming to Madrid in the next 3 months pay good attention to this.

Firstly, Summer in Madrid is very hot and dry!

Cool places to go and when:

  • Early mornings: Perfect to take a walk across the Park of el Retiro, the Botanic Garden or Casa de Campo using the “Teleférico” or cable cab. This last one is perfect if you're coming with your children since there is Zoo Park and an Amusement Park inside Casa de Campo.

  • Noon and early afternoon: Very convinient for galleries such as Museo del Prado ( Baroque), Museo Thyssen (Private collection all periods), Museo Reina Sofia (modern art), Museo Sorolla ( Impresionist paint er) or the Palacio Real. Also the sunset at Templo de Debod.

  • Late evening, nights: People in Madrid would start going out 21:00 for dinner but many places will be open from 19:00.

  • After dinner you might want to explore the night. Some places to visit at night are: Terraces at Paseo de la Castellana's boulevard with many terraces to enjoy a nice drink. Sabatinni Gardens by the Royal Palace with live concerts July and August. Take a look to Veranos de la Villa organized by the Madrid City hall.

  • Cava Baja Street for some delicious Spanish tapas and some drinks.

And of course our best recommendation for the summer is always to enjoy one of our tours in the early morning or late afternoon.
